I took today very easily and slept in all morning, not even waking til Midday. I'm still adjusting to the time zone, and I barely had 3 hours of poor quality sleep on the trip over here so I definitely needed the lie-in. I then got myself organised and headed out by taxi to Beachhouse Boulevard, Melbourne's only dedicated stamp store in West Footscray. It's a small shop but with quite a bit in it - a reasonable stamp collection, featuring Cherry Pie stamps, Outlines as well as their own range. They also sell Scrap Book paper and embellishments, including some really lovely fibre packs. There were several people in the store including the owner who were sitting in the back area playing and making stuff. On top of the display shelves, were some really lovely work samples, many of which had been in Stamping magazines, as open copies of the magazines demonstrated.
I searched first for embossing powder, Gold, Silver, Clear and White, unfortunately they did not have any White. I also picked up a packet of the fibres (such unusual, rich colours) a packet of Rhonna Farrers Swirl stamps, a Pack of K-Ology 8.5 X 8.5 Scrapbook papers in the Peabody and Verbena designs, a couple of 12 x 12 sheets of PP (Again, a different on from K-Ology and 1 sheet of Delhi paisley from 7 Gypsies), some plain, smooth card for stamping on, a metal ruler with tear guides for pretty torn edges (neat idea) and finally one of their own brand rubber stamps which was a Floral Star design - perfect to go with some of my Paisley stamps that I brought with me.
As I was paying for my purchases I struck up a conversation with the owner and she asked me if I was here on my own in Australia and then asked if I wanted to come and play after work one evening (they are open to 10pm for workers) then just to give her a call and if I stayed til 10pm she would run me back into the City. I think I will definitely do this at some point! They clearly have some very talented people that hang out there!
I caught the bus back into the city and then went back to the hotel to finish off making my frame for my friend. I glued the paper to the frame and trimmed and folded it to fit and glued it all into place using Mod Podge and then left it to dry whilst I went to the Cinema!
I had pre-booked my ticket on-line on Friday night because every time there is a film I have wanted to see at the cinema at the Crown, there have never been any tickets left. I wanted to see Pirates of the Carribean - Dead Man's Chest . It was worth seeing, even though it was a sequel (and clearly from the ending there are probably multiple sequels to come!) the special effects and make-up/prothesis/computer generated make-up were unbelievable - almost too convincing (and therefore probably a bit scary for children) the cinematography was beautiful, and the story was ok - not brilliant, but not terrible either. To be honest, it was just good fun! I was glad to see that they brought back in Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport) because although he is a 'baddie' he's a British actor, and I still have a bit of crush on him since he was in 'This Life' on TV back in the 90's.
When I got back to the hotel, I put the finishing touches to the picture frame by gluing the Elephant in place, and then I decided that it might be a good to add something to the top left corner - the perfect excuse to use my new Star Flower Stamp! I then sealed the whole thing with Mod Podge. I'm really happy with the results and I hope Mary Ann will like it too. Bye for now!
