Last day in Bangkok

My last day in Bangkok was spent SHOPPING! I just had to go and see the massive MBK shopping centre and I also wanted to go back to the Paragon Shopping Centre especially as I now realised that their prices were actually the best I had come across since being here - even cheaper than the markets in many cases! I spent the morning having breakfast at the little coffee bar down in the lower foyer (I have discovered that the coffee is best there compared to the other places in the hotel where you can get breakfast) and of course packing! Once I was packed, I went down to check out, arrange for my car to take me to the airport, and put my luggage into storage for the remainder of the day. that left me with 7 solid hours of SHOPPING!!!!

If you haven't guessed it by now, I am a complete shopaholic. That being said, I'm not silly, I am good at hunting out bargains and good deals. I just enjoy the whole experience, I can wonder around for hours and not buy much at all, in fact, much of my inspiration for my art work comes from Window Shopping. The 'Butterfly' department in the Paragon Shopping Centre helped to inspire all my Bluebird pieces. It is definitely a recreational thing for me.

MBK was massive - and disappointing. The prices were high, and everything was the same. I know that you are supposed to bargain, but I got the feeling that the prices were high so that when bargaining took place you actually only ended up paying the same prices as you would at home. I'd been looking for a camera, but could not find a price that I was willing to pay for the camera that I wanted (a Nikon FinePix S9500). The shopping centre was so large, it literally took me hours to get round it all. So, in the end the only things I 'bought' was an hour long Thai Foot Massage (£6.00) and something to eat (an incredibly tasty Mushroom Lasagne, and a delicious Tropical Fruit Smoothie) at a very trendy Food Court (not like the average Food Court, that's for sure!)

One thing I was certain of by this point, was that the Paragon Shopping Centre was going to be where I did all my buying! If you ever go to Bangkok, you HAVE to visit that Centre - it's sumptuous! There's an Aquarium in the basement too, although, I did not visit it. I want to go back though! LOL! The Siam Shopping Centre next door is also worthwhile visiting too.

Anyway, the Thai Craft shop is where I did all my spending - I bought: An elephant clasp embroidered bag, a beautiful thick silk scarf for my Mum, some silk elephant keyrings for various people, two, small silk jewellry wraps, a silk covered box full of incense sticks, cones and essential oil, some little Thai Art cards, some fab gold printed Mulberry paper (see above), some stylised silk tulips and buds: pictures of some of the items below:

So that was it! My trip to Thailand was over. I made it to the airport in plenty of time and got through to the Departures Lounge extremely quickly compared to most airports. So with plenty of time to kill, I had to look at all the shops of course! Guess what! I found my camera in the Duty Free Electrical shop at a very, very, very good price - so I bought it! :o) Can you spot the difference in my photos yet?
